Mikulov is a picturesque wine-growing town which is located 50 km south of Brno, near the borders with Austria. It is renowned for its historical monuments, wine-growing traditions and extensive network of bike trails which will take you all the way to Austria. Lovers of nature and swimming get also catered for. The surrounding hills offer plenty of options for hiking and nearby Novomlýnské reservoirs offer their lagoons for swimming, fishing and water sports.
Route of the cycle trip:
Mikulov – square (tip: chateau, Dietrichstein tomb) → Komenského street, a crossroad → Vídeňská street → crossing the main road, in the direction of Stará celnice (the Old Customs House) → at the Old Customs House turn left to the Stezka svobody (Freedom route) (in the direction of the village Sedlec) → a memorial Brána ke svobodě (Gateway to Freedom) → Sedlec – Skalky, turn right towards Austria → unpaved path through the forest → in Austria connection to cycle route no. 8 (signposted) → route no. 8 with unpaved surface runs along the border with the Czech Republic and throughout the journey you can watch Mikulov scenery – the Mikulov Chateau, Svatý Kopeček and Pavlov hills in the background and a pond Šibeník below the hill Šibeničník in the foreground → before the state borders turn right from the austrian cycle route no. 8 in the direction of the Czech Republic / Mikulov and arrive at the cycle route Mikulov / Ottenthal (an opportunity to visit Ottenthal if you turn left) → turn right in the industrial area before the railway crossing and follow the paved cycle path which takes you back to the Old Custom House → go back towards Mikulov, turning left along the road - Prussian cemetery → crossing the main road, Vídeňská street → at the crossroad turn to Zlámalova street → a little wine cellar lane → a path among the vineyards → turn left to the blue tourist trail, direction to Mariánský mlýn (mill) → Procházka forest park → 1. května street → Wolkerova street → Pavlovská street → Brněnská street → Lorm square (tip: Kozí hrádek, Jewish sights)
