The Museum of South Bohemia is one of the most important cultural institutions in South Bohemia. It was founded in 1877 as one of the oldest regional museums. The present building in Dukelska Street was built in the Renaissance style and made accessible in 1903.
The collecting activities of the museum created the museum's collection, which contains more than 800,000 items. Their significance and value lies in comprehensive, systematic and on scientific basis set constructed collections of botanical, geological, entomological, mycological, zoological, archaeological, ethnographic, numismatic, historical, applied arts, theatrical and musical history. Furthermore, there are collections of manuscripts, incunabula, old prints, paintings, prints, photographs and films.
